Cunningham Street, Geelong

Cunningham Street Plaza is part of a larger project to create pedestrian links through small laneways from the Geelong Waterfront to the City Centre. Negotiation and collaboration with two new and significant buildings at the entrance to Cunningham Street (Deakin University and Pier Point Apartments) helped to form the concept of the plaza.

The design considered the major flood path for Geelong through the space and instead of raising the plaza area it was lowered it so there would be no blockage. The space can be closed off or used for outdoor events with the bluestone bleachers creating a seating area. Trees are watered through stormwater capture into tree pits.
